Wiiliam Duncan

William Duncan

I started my artistic career working as a stage technician/carpenter at The Globe theatre(Now named The Gielgud Theatre) in London and afterwards The Aldwych Theatre. After a few years working in this environment I decided to enroll on a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course as it would give me the opportunity of teaching and living abroad.I chose Brazil as I had always wanted to go there.I spent 15 years in Sao Paulo where I taught English as a Foreign Language. I also completed an art and design course at Escola Panamericana de Artes obtaining a Diploma in Fine Art. At the same time I studied art history with Rodrigo Naves, a well-known Brazilian art critic/art historian and shared a studio with artist Ilka Lemos who was a great mentor. My partner and fellow artist, Alex Rezende and I then moved to Paraty, a cultural hotspot in Rio de Janeiro state where we opened our studio.  We spent 5 years there before returning to the UK.After a couple of years living in Bristol where we had the opportunity of showing our work at various venues we then decided to move to Liverpool where we are currently based.
